Pop-up Shops

Idea by Rachel F with added Baron M twist: Let's give young people and other creative individuals a chance to run a pop-up shop in the 27 empty shops in town for a minimum of a week with a sensible deal being struck with the landlords. They could be filled with art, performance, quirky business, crafts and anything else that might surprise or amuse. This could tie in with the new WE brand for Weymouth. WE help, WE create, ...more »

World exclusive autism and disability friendly Hotel

Westfield Arts College is a school for students with learning difficulties and complex needs. very few of us can gain enough qualifications to compete in an open market for jobs. we need to prove our worth by working. As a sixth form we would like to take over an hotel on the sea front, have it done up so that people with disabilities can come and enjoy Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast. We would like to learn on the job ...more »

Our low line 'High Line'

This is my idea for an improvement to an area of Weymouth I was going to go to the council with, but this group is far better so here it goes... I used to walk to the station from mine everyday this would take me through the shortcut between KFC and the back of B&Q. This area still has the remains of the tram line which would go through to the harbor. Its fully overgrown but that is half of its charm and reminds me ...more »

THEATRE AND ART CENTRE on the Pavilion Peninsula

Whether housed in the existing building by gutting it and modernising or whether built from scratch the community needs these facilities. It should be community managed. Equipped with cutting edge technology for anyone in the borough to support their learning interests with. The whole building should be educationally focused running courses and promoting opportunities for work experience. It should house an art gallery ...more »

Youth Art Group

The art scene in Weymouth and Portland is limited, and the youth of the area are particularly underrepresented. However, an increase in an organised and coordinated group of younger artists may help to raise Weymouth's profile, with exhibitions potentially attracting visitors to the area, in addition to allowing like-minded people to meet and share their passion for creativity. In addition to the formation of a youth ...more »

#Weyforward B&B Music Festival

A festival for people who love good music but like a comfy bed. Lots of current new + some big bands and performers. Outdoor stages on the Pavilion peninsula and at Lodmoor/The Marsh/Nothe Gardens. Other smaller indoor venues round town. Think South By South West by the sea. But everyone stays in B&Bs/hotels. Hold it annually.

Weymouth Food Passport

Personally I believe the greatest thing about Weymouth is the huge variety of non chain places to eat, just a handful of these eateries include: - Great British pies at The Handmade Pie and Ale house - The finest Italian food at Enzo - Wonderful succulent burgers at The Dorset Burger Company - Real A La Carte food at The Dining Room, Mambo's and Sense - A taste of Indian with The Weymouth Tandoori - Chinese food at the ...more »

Under 18's writers club

Kids and teens should be able to share their talents, even if they only share it with their local community. Young people are very imaginative and should be recognised for all of their creative ideas and stories! Therefore, I think there should be an under 18's writing club so the youth of today can create stories and those of a high quality, should be given out to members of the public! This would really freshen up all ...more »

Interactive History Exhibition

Now that the Time Walk has gone, there is very little opportunity for locals and visitors to learn about our history. Weymouth and Portland have a fascinating history, and it would be a massive shame if younger residents and our visitors never got to learn about it. I think that there should be new, more modern, version of the Time Walk, updated to show our Olympic success and with items that children could interact ...more »

Young Business Market

In Canterbury they have a monthly market in the main high street (huge footfall) for 'young makers' aged 16-25. Something similar in our borough would be useful. It could be linked to free business advice (also done in Canterbury) through the WSX Enterprise support we have in the area which has European funding. It could perhaps also work with the Dormen mentoring support group... This would support young people, develop ...more »

Business Development Support

What about the concept of business development support? Information resources, guest speakers and workshops as well as financial advice would all be fantastic ways to help guide young people who are interested in entrepreneurship. In this current employment climate (and in a society where university is not an option or the right choice for everyone) guiding and informing young people that they are able to take their employment ...more »
